Delhi to Open Belgian Hall

DELHI, July 11 – The end result of a fervent community spirit will be shown to the public when the tape is cut, and doors of the Delhi Belgian Club are thrown wide open July 12, at 3 p.m.
The Belgian Dramatic Club, under direction of Gerard Vandenbussche is responsible for the enterprise. In 1946, a group of Belgian people met with intention of building a hall for recreation, and a committee was organizer. Cost of the hall is $107,000.
First president of the Delhi Belgian Club Limited was Gerard Vandenbussche, with the following directors: Remi Lacour, Medard Van De Walle, Jean Beaukaert and Julien De Grieck.
430 Shareholders
Today there are 430 shareholders in the hall. First manager was Frank Osaer, and the present manager is Cyril Pollet. The committee now is Medard Van De Walle, president; Archie De Vriendt, vice-president, and directors, Remi Lacour, Alfons Van Goethem, Emiel De Burgraeve, Marcel Besalaere and Constant Verschoore.
The hall contains a large auditorium, for dancing and weddings. A billiard room, archery range and bowling alleys. A beverage room has been completed and license for the operation obtained. There is also a handsome apartment for the manager. It is one of the finest buildings of its kind in the district, and has become the centre for the Belgian people of the tobacco district.
